Let yourself be inspired by our ideas to escape the routine, explore enchanting places and create unforgettable memories with your partner." width="747" height="427" />

How to choose a romantic destination for a couple’s trip?

When planning a trip as a couple , it’s essential to consider several factors to ensure the experience lives up to your expectations. Think about the season you’d like to travel in, as this can influence not only the weather but also the cost of travel and tourist crowds. The activities available at your destination, such as romantic dinners or adventure activities, can also make a big difference in your decision. Finally, don’t forget personal preferences , such as the type of scenery you enjoy, whether it’s the beach, the mountains, or a bustling city. In total, you’ll need to consider three main criteria to guide your choice.

The ideal season for travel

Choosing the right season is crucial to the success of your romantic getaway. Whether you’re planning a summer vacation on a sun-drenched beach or a winter escape to a city twinkling with lights, each season has its own magic. Think of destinations like Paris in the spring, where cherry blossoms create a fairytale setting, or Venice in the fall, where the crowds are more manageable, offering a more intimate atmosphere. The weather also plays a vital role; unexpected downpours can sometimes spoil a romantic outing. Before booking, double-check the weather forecast to avoid any unpleasant surprises. In short, the season is the backdrop for your romance, so pay attention to the details!

Activities to discover together

Activities you can share as a couple can truly enrich your travel experience. Imagine a candlelit dinner on a tranquil beach, or a hike hand in hand through picturesque landscapes. Cities like Lisbon offer not only architectural wonders but also romantic tram rides. Each destination has its own unique experiences to enjoy together. Explore options such as cruises, local cooking classes, or even couples massages at a spa. Tailor your choices to your shared interests to ensure unforgettable memories together!

Personal preferences

Finally, personal preferences play a crucial role in choosing a romantic destination. Some people are drawn to idyllic landscapes like the Seychelles , while others might prefer the hustle and bustle of a major city like New York . If you’re both nature lovers, consider a trip to the Greek islands, where stunning natural scenery and tranquil coves await. Conversely, if art and culture are your passions, a trip to Florence could be perfect. Ultimately, choosing a destination that resonates with your personal tastes will strengthen your connection and create an unforgettable experience.

What are the best travel ideas for couples for a romantic getaway?

Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or an unforgettable honeymoon , several destinations await you. Here are a few steps to help you choose the perfect place:

Explore romantic destinations

Consider the activities to do together

Consider your budget

Learn about the local culture

Plan your trip

Explore romantic destinations

For a memorable couple’s trip, start by making a list of romantic destinations . Think of iconic places like Venice , with its enchanting canals, or Paris, the city of love. The beaches of Santorini or the natural landscapes of Iceland are also excellent choices. But don’t forget to consider tried-and-true favorites like Marrakech or the Bahamas , which are prized for their romantic atmosphere. Ask yourself: what kind of atmosphere are you looking for?

Consider the activities to do together

Once you’ve chosen your destinations, think about the activities you’ll be doing. Are you more into beaches and relaxation, or are you looking for exciting adventures? If you opt for a stay in Bali or Zanzibar , water sports and diving await you. Meanwhile, in a city like Prague , you might enjoy a romantic stroll through its cobblestone streets. Whatever you choose, the memories you’ll create together will be priceless.

Consider your budget

A crucial point not to overlook is, of course, your budget . Keep in mind that there are excellent options for every budget. For those on a tighter budget, consider trips to Eastern Europe, such as Budapest or Lisbon , where a change of scenery and lower costs go hand in hand. If you’re a little more financially comfortable, why not treat yourselves to a getaway on an island in the Seychelles ? Think about your priorities and don’t lose sight of the incredible experience you’ll share together.

Learn about the local culture

One of the joys of traveling as a couple is immersing yourselves in the local culture. Whether through gastronomy, music, or traditions, each country has its own unique character to discover. If you go to Cuba , let yourselves be captivated by salsa and the delicious local cuisine. In India , explore magnificent palaces while savoring spicy dishes. These kinds of experiences will bring you even closer, don’t you think?

Plan your trip

Finally, it’s time to get organized. Book your flights, choose suitable accommodation, and make sure everything aligns with your preferences. If the idea of camping or a van life adventure appeals to you, feel free to consult this guide on van trips . Whatever your approach, the key is to keep your options open and plan something special together.

Although summer is long overdue, and with it the thoughts and attitudes of vacation and the sea, there may still be undecided where to go in a month or two. Here are our top 5 Greek islands with a typical atmosphere, conducive to the beach and swimming during the day, and in the warm evenings – to drink ouzo in the aroma of cooked seafood.

Crete
Crete is the southernmost of all the islands of Greece and perhaps endowed with the most significant historical heritage, that of the Minoan civilization – the first European civilization. The palace of King Minos and everything related to the ancient Greek legends about the labyrinth of the Minotaur is located in Crete – in Knossos, near Heraklion, the capital of the island.

Balos beach lagoon on the island of Crete

The island is the largest in all of Greece, the coastline is huge and the choice of villages and beaches for summer vacation is extremely large. Heraklion, Chania (Chania), Rethymno, Hersonissos and Agia Nikolaos – all along the northern coast, are among the largest settlements and resorts. If you decide to travel by ferry, these are the main ports, and the flights most often land at the airport in Heraklion (there are also airports for international flights in Chania and Sitia).

Santorini Island
The most popular of the Cycladic islands and the most visited by cruise ships due to the depth of its coastal waters, Santorini is infinitely picturesque, sunny and romantic. Its volcanic origins color the sand on its beaches in a dark, almost black color. And the steep cliffs with white houses, the blue domes of the churches and the windmills are most characteristic of the landscapes of this Aegean island. Its main city (port and airport) is Fira, and in the town of Oia in the north crowds of people gather every day to watch the most beautiful sunset in the whole Cyclades.

The island of Kos
Kos is part of the group of 12 islands, the Dodecanese or also called the Southern Sporades and is very close to the coast of the Turkish resort of Bodrum. It is most convenient to reach it from Bulgaria by the ferry Bodrum – Kos, which covers a distance of no more than 20 km between them. The larger settlements on the island are the eponymous town of Kos, Kardamena, Kefalos, Tigaki, Mastichari. Kos is proud of the marina, opened near the old port in 2001, which is considered the center of yacht cruise tourism in the Aegean Sea. The history of the island is connected with the father of medicine, Hippocrates, who lived there in the distant 5th century BC. As in many places in Greece, Kos is full of archeological finds, monuments and settlements.

Rhodes Island
Rhodes is another island of the Dodecanese group, in fact the largest of them and also easily accessible from the Turkish coast, but from Marmaris. Home to the now extinct Colossus of Rhodes, one of the 7 wonders of the world in the past, Rhodes offers many opportunities to combine a beach holiday with cultural tourism, especially for lovers of ancient Greek civilization. The medieval city of the capital Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Lindos and Ialyssos are home to much of Rhodes’ most valuable archaeological heritage, such as the Acropolis of Lindos, the ruins of the Temple of Zeus and the Byzantine fortress of Ialyssos. Beaches and resorts are also abundant, the most developed in this regard is the northeastern part of the island, around the towns of Faliraki, Kalifeya, Afandu, Kolimbia, Lindos and others.

Mykonos Island
We have reached the Cycladic Islands again, but they really have an irresistible charm. Mykonos is traditionally known as a relatively more expensive and luxurious destination with interesting nightlife, and the views from the port in the capital – also Mykonos (Chora) and a number of fishermen’s houses called Little Venice, are well known and sealed by photographers in thousands of versions. evening, morning, bright day, etc. light.

White houses with blooming bougainvillea everywhere in Mykonos

Mykonos is also a frequent stop for cruise ships, whose curious passengers pass in crowds through the narrow streets for a few hours and during these hours it is better to be on the beach and leave the walks on the cobbled streets until late in the evening. the islands are Elia, Plati Yalos, Kalo Livadi, Megali Amos – near the city of Mykonos, Agios Ioannis and others. The landscape of Mykonos is quite similar to that of Santorini – windmills, blue roofs of churches, white houses and the same incredibly flowering bougainvillea, with the difference that there are no high sheer cliffs, so typical of Santorini.

• Barri Gotic– the heart of the Old Town (Ciutat Vella), on whose territory all history buffs feel quite comfortable. The narrow streets with medieval buildings on the side of the Ramblas, whose ground floors now house many boutiques, lead to the impressive city cathedral “Santa Cruz and Santa Eulalia”. The Gothic Quarter is full of landmarks such as the Basilica of La Merse, the neo-Gothic bridge on the Archbishop’s Street (Carrer del Bisbe), the Church of Santa Maria del Pi, the Casa de la Ciutat and the Palace of the Catalan Autonomous Government.
• El Born – the name of the neighborhood near Barri Gotic. It is especially famous for its medieval Calle Montcada, which now houses the Museu Picasso, as well as the particularly beautiful church of Santa Maria del Mar.

• Montjuik Hill rises above the port and is accessible in several ways, one of which is the Teleferic / Funicular lift from Port Vel. The walk there is pleasant, among exotic greenery and reveals views from above, inaccessible from anywhere else in the city. Montjuic is home to a host of Barcelona attractions, including the Palau Nacional, which houses the National Museum of Catalan Art, the Font Magica, Poble Espanyol, the Joan Miró Foundation and more.

• Camp Nou – no true football fan will miss a visit to the world-famous stadium, which is also home to Barcelona Football Club.

• Mediterranean cuisine . The delicious food occupies a cult place in the visit to the Catalan capital. It is not uncommon for some tourists to define it as the main destination of their trip, otherwise gourmet tourism would not be known to the world. ?It is easy to find good food in Barcelona and it is advisable to try as many different recipes as possible during your stay there. The seafood dishes in the restaurants around Port Vell are amazing, and not only there, of course. All sorts of themed restaurants tempt visitors everywhere in the city and only strong will and focused thinking will help you decide which one to choose, as well as save yourself from overeating.?

• Shopping areas. Unlikely, but still – in case none of the above ideas coincide with your interests and shopping is the only motive that can make you walk the streets of the city, then Barcelona is still the right place for you. Starting from the tangle of streets with Bari Gothic and Rambla shops, passing through Plaza Catalunya up Passeig de Gracia and Avenida Diagonal, you will see almost all world famous brands, some with more than one store offering different collections. Don’t miss the El Corte Ingles shopping center. Just be careful then with the excess baggage at the airport?

The marina

Well, as you can see, anyone can spend at least a week in Barcelona doing what they prefer, even if they don’t know in advance exactly how they want to spend their time.
If you happen to arrive in this city tired and reluctant to run around the sights, just the first night go out and walk along the Rambla, go to the nearby shops, and for dinner go to one of the nice restaurants around the marina. You will surely wake up the next morning in good spirits, full of burning impatience to start exploring the incredible cultural and historical treasures of Barcelona! And that’s where they never end.

Here are some thoughts on accommodation and meals during this trip.

This time we stayed in a great hotel, as I mentioned – next to the Pantheon. Not very big, but we weren’t looking for one. The feeling was amazing. In the evening, if you open the shutters, you hear a pleasant noise from the Pantheon Square, from curious tourists walking, from the nearby restaurants. <ins class="bookingaff" data-aid="1925534" data-target_aid="1925534" data-prod="rw" data-width="0" data-height="0" data-lang="bg" data-show_rw_logo="1" data-show_rw_badge="1" data-show_rw_text="1" data-show_rw_border="1" data-right_align_rw="1" data-hid="81081" data-bk-touched="true"></ins>

The four stars were deserved everywhere, despite our expectations and the experience of tourists, from which we learned how diverse the meaning can be invested in the concept of “hotel category” in the most visited cities in Europe, and not only there. It’s good when you come across exceptions.

After a lot of travel, I think that compromises should not be made with hotels – where you are staying is one of the most important issues, immediately after deciding where to travel. It affects the overall perception of both the destination and the time spent there. In this case, there was no more ideal location, comfort and atmosphere for a stay in Rome. Most of sights are within walking distance. In the evening you just walk out of the entrance and find yourself in one of the characteristic streets with many restaurants.

When it comes to restaurants, the central area of Rome offers an endless choice, which makes it better to use the old tried and tested method – a recommendation from local people. By the way, here in Rome for the first time we came across a restaurant that is closed on weekends! Apparently its owners have long since reached a point of complete financial indifference :), naturally maintained without much effort by the good location of one of the most visited Roman squares plus the crowded influx of tourists at any time. It seemed absurd to us, but it was a fact. However, the truth is that the restaurant has long earned a name, if we have to look for economic logic. In addition, restaurants, like most hotels in Italy, are mostly a family business, and ultimately everyone has the right to relax on the weekends?Naturally, however, such working hours seem strange to the tourism industry, from which point of view you look at it. But the fact that things were not the same for all restaurateurs was evident from a number of completely empty restaurants, which once again shows that it is not just a question of location.

The first night we came across “La Sacrestia” – near the Pantheon and to our liking. Not that at least ninety percent of the trattorias didn’t look that way, but we liked the food and the cramped but cozy hall with crowded tables, pleasantly noisy, and unobtrusive music (Italian, of course).

The other night we were in the notorious “Alfredo” – with walls full of photos of all sorts of celebrities – from Elizabeth Taylor, John F. Kennedy and Sophia Loren, to Alice Cooper :), who eat the famous fettuccine Alfredo, which we remembered with one of the red wines in the leaves.

When it comes to food, I do not dare to miss a trattoria in Trastevere – “Sabatini”. It is located in the square opposite the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere – one of the oldest in Rome. There are probably many better restaurants in the area, but we remembered the one with delicious food, intimate atmosphere, and the warm attitude of the waiter – about 70 years old gentleman, cheerful and loving his work – a view that would be a unique landmark . In general, Trastevere turned out to be a very pleasant stop and if we can judge only tonight – not as crowded with tourists as other places in Rome.

If I have to summarize – nothing that can be called luxurious, we have not seen in the appearance of most restaurants in tourist places in Rome, but everything else can be fully described as such – and the atmosphere, and music, and food. And most importantly – and after paying the bill, which is by no means symbolic, you still come out happy and smiling

If lately you feel that you need a breath of fresh air and need to urgently go somewhere, then know that Amsterdam is always waiting [...]

If lately you feel that you need a breath of fresh air and need to urgently go somewhere, then know that Amsterdam is always waiting for you with open arms. Intriguing and colorful, tolerant and free, the city will make you feel comfortable and “at home” without being intrusive. There is nothing obligatory in Amsterdam, you can spend your time as you wish and no one will reproach you for missing something. In addition, it is there that you can choose for tourism purposes radically different routes – from coffee shops and the red light district to the beautiful city art galleries and many churches.

Here is an option for a short tour of the city with some of the most popular places for connoisseurs of cultural and cognitive tourism:
– Historical canals(Grachtengordel). Arranged in the form of concentric circles, they give the most characteristic nuance of the atmosphere in the city together with the hundreds of romantic bridges and parked bicycles around them. A boat trip from the pier to Central Station , for example, will take you through the most picturesque canals, such as Singel – the oldest and most internally located canal – and allow you to get a first impression of the city’s architecture. You will also see the popular and charming housing boats .

The tangle of canals surrounding the central part of the city with its more than 1,500 houses-architectural monuments is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and dates mainly from the golden 17th century for the Netherlands. Why is it called “golden”? Thanks to its sailors from a small fishing village, as it was when it originated in the late 12th century, Amsterdam and the whole of the Netherlands became the busiest port in the world, trading with the most remote points on the map. Trade pushes the development of the city forward in all other areas – science, culture, art. Formed as a world financial center, Amsterdam leaves important traces in the economic history of mankind.

There were born a number of prototypes of the concepts we know today, such as the Central Bank, which is considered the Bank of Amsterdam, The stock exchange (if not in time, then in terms of volume it was certainly the leader), the first multinational – the Dutch East India Company. Well, the rapid development and use of new financial instruments inevitably gives rise to the first closest to modern speculative “bubbles” and crises – it is enough just to remember the tulip-mania, but that’s another topic .

– The Floating Flower Market (Blumenmarkt). It is from the tulip mania that we move to the other emblematic Amsterdam attraction – the floating flower market on the Singel canal. As is well known, flowers and the Netherlands are inextricably linked, and this is evident everywhere in Amsterdam and its beautiful flower pavilions, where you can choose from an unimaginable number of varieties of tulips and other flowers, bulbs and seeds. If you happen to be in Amsterdam in the spring and have more time, be sure to go to the town of Lisse (Lisse) about 35 km and the amazing Köckenhof Garden called the “Flower Garden of the Netherlands”. about four and a half million! If you do not have enough time to organize a trip out of town, you can go to the City Botanical Garden Hortus Botanicus – one of the oldest in the world, founded in 1632.

After seeing more than 6,000 species of plants grown there, you can continue to admire the colorful landscape from the cafe terrace to the park. Hortus Botanicus is about 850 meters from Rembrandt Square on the other bank of the Amstel River.

Amsterdam

– Rembrandtplein – the popular town square is named after the famous artist who lived near it. In 2006, in honor of the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt’s birth, an installation of bronze statues was erected on the square, recreating the plot of what is considered by many to be his most famous painting “Night Watch”. The streets around the square are full of restaurants, cafes and hotels, and if you are looking for an authentic local pub with real Dutch music, you will find it in one of the restaurants around. Some claim to be several centuries old. 10 minutes from the square is the Rembrandt House-Museum (address: Jodenbreestraat 4) in the Jewish Quarter, which exhibits his engravings and etchings.

” Dam Square .”(De Dam) – the square dates back to the construction of the dam (Dam) around the Amstel River, which protects the city from being flooded by the sea, which was somewhere in the 13th century. On this square is the old royal palace (now the home of the royal family, as well as the Dutch government are located in The Hague) and several other landmarks such as the memorial to soldiers killed in World War II, the building of the Berlage Stock Exchange ), Madame Tussauds. ” Anne Frank’s house. “

(Prinsengracht 263-267) – the house where the Jewish girl’s family hid from Nazi atrocities for two years during World War II and in which Anne wrote her famous diary, has now been turned into a museum visited by thousands of guests of the city.

– The Van Gogh Museum(address: Museumplein, Paulus Potterstraat №7) – A remarkable place in Amsterdam and a strong magnet for fans of the great artist. There are paintings from all his periods. You can watch variations of “Sunflowers” and other flowers as you like, his self-portraits, “Family that eats potatoes” and the series dedicated to rural life, as well as many more or less famous paintings. The museum has a place for the collections of other impressionist and post-impressionist artists, his contemporaries, inspirers or those who draw inspiration from his ingenious talent. The museum shop offers an abundance of albums and books with reproductions of Van Gogh, which would be a valuable memory of Amsterdam and the house of one of the most intriguing artists in European art of all time.

– Rijksmuseum – National Museum of History and Art of the Netherlands, whose exhibits, including paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer and other great artists, were first exhibited in The Hague (1800) and then moved to Amsterdam. The current building of the museum was built in 1885, and in April 2013 its main sector was reopened after a ten-year period of reconstruction. The Rijksmuseum is close to the Museum Gole’s Van Gogh Museum.

– The Old Church (Oude Kerk) and the New Church(Nieuwe Kerk) – from their names one can think that one is almost modern, but in fact they date from the 14th and 15th centuries, respectively. Just after the expansion of the city, the old church became too small and so the construction of the new one began soon. One is located in the heart of the red light district (De Wallen), and the other – about 900 meters from it, on Dam Square. Nowadays, the New Church serves as an exhibition hall, a place for concerts and other events. It is always available to the royal family at coronations, weddings and other official ceremonies. – NEMO Science Museum

(NEMO) – the largest science center in the Netherlands, aimed at anyone interested in science and technology. Not only exhibitions, but also workshops, theatrical performances and films are provided for the visitors. It is about a 20-minute walk from Oosterdok Central Station № 2.
– A tour of Amsterdam. This is not a museum :). We just want to remind you of the delicious and varied food in urban restaurants. Most of them are nice small and cozy restaurants, predisposing with their intimate atmosphere to pleasant culinary experiences.

Since Dutch cuisine is generally not famous for any special traditions, or at least not like other European cuisines, the cuisine is a fusion. The chefs emphasize all sorts of innovations in food preparation, fresh and organic products, and the restaurants themselves often reach eccentricity. Many restaurants in Amsterdam are known for their unconventional locations – a former Renault showroom, a former greenhouse, an old ferry, and the leader in non-standard is the Freud restaurant (Spaarndammerstraat 424), where food is prepared and served by former psychiatric patients.

Well, yes, this is Amsterdam – vivid and colorful, going to extremes, but offering something for everyone. It continues to be open to the world today, as it was during the Golden Age of the Netherlands. And no one will feel like a foreigner in this cheerful and friendly city. If you want to spend your weekend in Amsterdam then I would recommend you to book your flight from Indigo at the cheapest rate.

Day 1
Gamla Stan – This is the oldest part of Stockholm and we can’t help but start from it, because it just acts like a magnet. The views of the “historic heart” (and in our opinion, the heart of Stockholm in general), from wherever we look at it, but especially from Södermalm, are incredibly impressive. In fact, the impressive silhouette along the waters of Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea is shaped by the beautiful building of the Stockholm City Hall, which is outside the Gamla Stan area. But let’s go through the cobbled and picturesque streets of the Old Town first, and the City Hall will wait.
We move completely chaotically, just attracted by the colors and atmosphere of the medieval streets. So we hit not just any, but the oldest street – Kopmangatan . We go straight to the main square –Stortorget . It is the most iconic place in Gamla Stan. The square has been the scene of many historical events, and its atmosphere grabs us immediately – especially with the beautiful building of the Old Stock Exchange and the houses between № 14 and № 22 – historic buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries, with typical Scandinavian architecture and pastel colors. The Old Stock Exchange currently houses several institutions, including the Nobel Museum , which we have planned to visit . We postpone his visit until later in the afternoon, after we have explored the Old Town in full daylight so that we can concentrate on the museum itself.

We are looking for the entrance of the church, whose tower we see rising very close. This is the Cathedral of Stockholm or Storkirkan – the oldest church, all in brick, built in our familiar and from other northern cities brick Gothic style. Impressive exterior and memorable interior. It turns out that Christmas concerts are being held in the cathedral these days. We immediately record, if we have time last night, to be there – with Handel’s music on organ.
Opposite Storkirkan we see a huge square and an even more impressive complex of buildings – this is the Royal Palace. We are inside, of course. The ticket includes several exhibitions. First we look at the Treasury , then the royal apartmentsand official guest suites, which are still in use today. At the entrance, every visitor can see if the head of state of his country has ever stayed in them. We are amazed to find out which of the Bulgarian presidents had the honor of visiting there. Everything in the Royal Palace is beautiful and elegant, without excessive luxury – completely typical of the elegant and clean Scandinavian style. If we notice something more intrusive and magnificent – it turns out to be a gift to the Swedish king from, for example, Louis XVI. Then we visit the Tre Cronor Museum – with the remains of the old castle building, which burned down in 1697. Everywhere is full of models of the castle of the Three Crowns before the fire – it was more beautiful than the current palace. The Royal Palace also includes the Royal Armory and the Royal Chapel ( Slotskirkan) at the other end of the square.

We decide it’s time for tea or coffee. We enter a warm and cozy pastry shop, in which the basement has also been turned into a trading hall, and the inscription reads that it is from the 14th century. However, we prefer the ground floor with windows overlooking the narrow streets. We drink tea to forget about the cold weather outside. There is no window on the streets, and not just in Gamla Stan, which lacks a Christmas candlestick or glittering lights. Nor is there a shop or cafe without lighted lanterns and Christmas decorations or any other decoration that invites you to feel comfortable and welcome.

We continue the walk around Gamla Stan. We go to almost every souvenir shop, firstly because most of them sell different things, but also to keep warm. After some wandering, we find Martin Trotzig – the narrowest street in the city. It is really only 90 cm wide. A restaurant of the same name is glued to it, and this is an occasion to note that in this area the number of restaurants in general is amazing. Then we look for the other high tower in the area of Gamla Stan, which turns out to belong to the German Church . We continue to the Riksdagen– the building of the Swedish Parliament. It is pleasant, and around it the landscape becomes more and more watery, because it is located on a small island connected to the others by beautiful bridges. And here, as in the whole city, the bridges are so solidly constructed and naturally follow the street that only on the railings you understand that you are moving over water.

It is getting colder and windier outside. We return again through the streets around the Cathedral and Stortorget. At the time of our trip, the Christmas bazaar was already open , filling the middle of the square. Unlike Christmas markets in many other places in Europe, the one in Stockholm is open only during the day and closes at 6 pm. In addition to it, Christmas bazaars are organized in several other places in the city, but only on certain weekends and they are open again until 3-4 o’clock in the afternoon.

It starts to get dark quite early, about 3 o’clock in the afternoon and about half an hour the light stays in the pleasant phase of twilight. From it, the houses around Stortorget already look quite out of fairy tales.

The historic houses on Stortorget Square in Gamla Stan

On their ground floors, the fogged windows with Christmas lights in several cafes and restaurants confuse our choice – each looks more cozy than cozy. However, we choose one by intuition – with a few super narrow tables around a wood stove, the aroma of freshly baked gingerbread and mulled wine, the so-called. in Swedish glög and we go inside. It is so narrow that you sit and do not move, and I do not know how 4 people work and move inside. We warm up, drink a hawthorn and continue our walk through the winter streets of Gamla Stan. And so until it gets completely dark. Then we enter the Nobel Museum. It is interesting and we learn interesting facts. We have no difficulty in accepting the facts on display in the museum – someone has figured out how to present in the most accessible and concise way the most important things to say about the Nobel Prize discoveries over the years and the life of Alfred Nobel himself. rather than just formally opening a museum dedicated to the subject.

Day 2
It rains this day and we decide to go hop on hop off bus to Stockholm. We pass the Royal Opera House , then the Ridarholmen district with the impressive Ridarholm Church , one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm, built around 1200, which serves as the burial church of the Swedish kings. We get off at the City Hall of Stockholm (Stadshuset) – that beautiful building with a golden statue on the blade of her tower, which from the moment of arrival we want to take a closer look. The tour is organized in small groups every half hour with a guide and lasts about 30-40 minutes. At least this week, tour hours are only possible before noon, because in the afternoon in the City Hall there are various events and happenings. Tickets are sold in the museum shop, which, like the City Hall, is too sophisticated to sell mass souvenirs – a serious selection has been made.
We continue the hop on hop off tour of the bus and pass the Central Station . We cross the longest shopping street Drottninggatan . The next stop on Stockholm’s tourist bus is Hawthorget– a huge open-air market, next to which the blue neoclassical building of the Stockholm Concert Hall stands a bit unusual for this landscape .

In addition to the Royal Symphony Orchestra, it hosts annual Nobel Prize ceremonies. We pass Norrmalmstrong Square , where the bank is located, involved in the emergence of the concept of “Stockholm Syndrome” from 1973. We come to a beautiful building with gold sculptures in front of the entrance – the Royal Drama Theater. Here you go down for a boat trip from the quay Nibroplan . In winter, only an internal tour of the lake’s canals circulates, while in the warmer months a boat travels around the archipelago. It stopped raining outside and even the sun rose. We cross Strandvegen – the boulevard with the most expensive and huge apartments.

We reach the island of Djurgården , which is home to a large number of sights and attractions in Stockholm. We start, of course, with the Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet) , considered the most visited museum in Scandinavia in recent years. The interest is justified because the 17th century warship “Vasa” looks impressively good, and after staying at the bottom of the sea for 333 years. As we tour the ship on all sides and listen with interest to the museum guide, the feeling grows that Johnny Depp will be on deck at any moment as Jack Sparrow. In fact, the ship “Vasa” is one of the real prototypes of the “Flying Dutchman” from “Pirates of the Caribbean”, but Johnny Depp never appears while we’re there :).

The Vasa ship at the Vasa Museum, Stockholm

At the back of Vasamuseet is the Nordic Museum , housed in an incredibly beautiful building. Also in Djurgården are the ABBA Museum, the Unibakken Children’s Museum and the Grona Lund Amusement Park . Much of Djurgården is occupied by Skansen – a park, zoo and open-air ethnographic museum.

By the time we get out of the next museum, it’s completely dark. We head to Gamla Stan and the Christmas Bazaar for a glass of mulled wine.

Day 3
It has been snowing since morning. Christmas carols are everywhere and the spirit of Christmas is hovering. We decided to visit the SoFo area in Södermalm, where we stayed and interesting places nearby such as the Photographic Museum and Fjällgatan – the place with the best views in Stockholm. Located in an area with historic buildings from the 17th century, it is called the “Stockholm Terrace” because of the wonderful view of the islands of Gamla Stan, Skepskolmen and Djurgården. Then we go around the tidy streets of Sopho (the area south of Folkungagatan), we reach the church of Hagia Sophiaon a bare and windy hill. Then we decide that SoFo is a good area to live in, but the weather is not pleasant for long and aimless walks in the open air. We get on the hop on hop off bus again (the ticket is valid for 24 hours from the first boarding) and decide to spend a few hours shopping on Drottningatan Street in Norrmalm.

Serge Square and Drottninggatan Street

Countless shops and malls are crowded because it’s Saturday and Christmas is approaching. We take a look here and there, but we definitely haven’t hit a good time to shop. We have lunch at a restaurant chosen at random and as in all cases in Stockholm so far, everything is delicious, flawless and accurate.

We remember the concert in the Cathedral and set off in the hope that there were tickets left. And even if they are not, we prefer to spend the rest of our time in Stockholm in the pleasant atmosphere of the Old Town.

The snow is getting heavier and dusk is starting to fall over Stortorget and the Christmas Bazaar…

Day 4 Seville
– the heart of Andalusia… What can I say about it, except that it became our favorite city on this tour and remains so to this day after all our travels. The Guadalquivir River only complements the already enchanting landscape in this city. Alive and bright, full of history, with a unique architectural style and an unprecedented number of churches…

The Royal Palace in Seville – the patio of the virgins

Without exhausting the list, the Cathedral of Seville, the Iglesia del Salvador, Saint Nicholas, Santa Maria la Blanca are a must-see for those interested in religious sites. I remember every church we entered, with its atmosphere and radiance. Is it because we were lucky to walk there on Saturday night I do not know, but all but one were full for evening service with people of different ages… The more likely reason is – just another culture, which I guess is far more ennobling for the common man than the atheistic and nihilistic Bulgarian.

side view from outside – Seville Cathedral

The streets of Seville are full of life until late. In the central part, shopping is possible for up to incredible hours, after which you can relax in one of the many tapas bars. Delicious food, dizzying red wine, friendly attitude, smiling people… Is there anything to comment on this?

Day 5 Seville
The Royal Palace (Alcazar) in Seville can be seen in half a day, but if you rush down the sloping plane to photograph all the things that make an impression, you will not have enough of the day. He is so beautiful! It is located opposite the Cathedral . Next to it is the Giralda Tower .

The Royal Palace in Seville

They are close to the old Jewish quarter – narrow and picturesque streets in the center of Seville, with small square courtyards with orange trees and small shops where you can find everything.

Alcázar de Sevilla

Plaza de España in Maria Luisa Park is also a must-see in Seville.
If you have a lot of time, you can visit a bunch of other sights such as the Golden Tower along the Guadalquivir River, the Andalusian Parliament building (former Spanish Renaissance hospital), the Trade Guild building, which houses the General Archives of the Spanish Empire. , ruled South America and the Philippines, the Macarena Basilica (Nuestra senora de la Esperanza Macarena), city walls, hospitals, gates (Puerta del Sol)?– There are some in every Spanish city… Everywhere you go, you will see an architectural landmark, because in Seville it’s just like that.

Day 6 Seville – Cordoba – Granada
In the morning we left the hotel in Seville and headed northeast. We liked the Andalusian capital so much that we didn’t believe another place would impress us after it, but it turned out not to be – fortunately, of course. We were about to see many more cities in Spain and we did not know that in each one we will find a different charm and a different atmosphere, still pleasant and memorable.

Mesquita de Cordoba, Spain

After Seville we first stopped in Cordoba . We looked at the impressive mosque-cathedral Mesquita de Córdoba for hours and photographed from different angles. Built in the 10th century during the Moorish rule, Mesquite was then the largest mosque in the world. Then it was turned into a Catholic cathedral and today it is the mix of styles and influences that leaves the traveler with his mouth open the first time he enters.

After the Mesquite, we wandered the narrow streets of the old Jewish quarter with white houses, orange trees, shops and restaurants. It is no coincidence that these landmarks of Cordoba are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
In the evening we arrived in Granada and the next day we were to see another marvel of architectural art – the Alhambra.

Day 7 Granada – Madrid
We had bought tickets from the Internet with a specified time to visit, which you either strictly observe, or you are mercilessly sent to the entrance of the Alhambra . We waited in the long line of tourists in our time interval and went inside.

Alhambra

Both before and after this visit I watched many films about Alambra and I must say that nothing can compare with the real view of the palace, with feeling the atmosphere in it and experiencing it in real life. It can’t be described, so I won’t try. The Alhambra is a must-see, even if one is faced with the hypothetical choice of visiting only one place in Spain.

After Granada we continued to Madrid. This is one of the longest hikes in the tour of Portugal and Spain, but because of the convenient highways it did not weigh us down. We arrived in the evening and stayed in a wonderful hotel in the center of the Spanish capital, one of the most pleasant hotels during this trip, where we were generally very lucky with their choice.

to be continued

The pleasant warmth we feel in the first moment we get out of the strong air conditioner at the airport, under which we tremble while our documents are checked and we are photographed on at least two cameras, disappears in just a minute. It is becoming unbearable heat that follows us until the end of the trip to the United Arab Emirates.
Well, it depends, of course, exactly what time of year one will get there. In general, from May to September the average temperature is around 40 ° C, and we end up in Dubai in June.
Even as we drive at breakneck speed in the multi-lane Sheikh Zayed Road, located longitudinally and practically connecting all parts of Dubai, we realize how justified all premonitions were that we would end up in a place other than the usual destinations we love. to travel. There is nothing old here, nothing traditional in the true sense of the word, because the city is so new that it is difficult to talk about customs and traditions… Skyscrapers shine everywhere, competing in their claims to engineering, advertising, lights, new flawlessly marked roads on which the latest car models race. Huge office and retail space alternates with the headquarters of world-famous technology companies such as Oracle, Dell, Apple… .. We knew it was not for us from the beginning. We just have to forget about winding narrow streets with small cafes and authentic Arab architecture. But curiosity is stronger than reason? And in every place you will find landmarks in one sense or another. Let’s see what they mean in Dubai by the words “attractions” and “landmarks”:

Dubai, viewed from Burj Khalifa

We start with one of the most emblematic attractions of Dubai:
Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world at the moment with its 828 meters. For comparison, the Empire State Building is “some” 381 m high. ?Tourists climb to the middle floors (over 400 m) and the glass windows show the true face of Dubai – a city in the desert. The building is super modern, and the elevator takes us to the top in a minute, moving at unreal speed. It is much cheaper to buy the entrance ticket online than in any other way, and on the spot you risk waiting indefinitely, because the visit upstairs is reserved and of course, the convenient ones are booked in advance. The entrance for visitors to the Burj Khalifa is predictably in the Dubai Mall itself(Dubai Mall) to the delight of local traders. It is really huge – as it is explained everywhere, it is the largest mall in the world – and you can’t go around for a day if someone has such intentions. Inside is an Aquarium and an underwater zoo, and the braver ones can enter and swim with sharks in one of the pools. The emblem of the mall are the giant artificial waterfalls as part of the interior. Many other attractions lurk to impress the modern tourist, who, however, seems to find it increasingly difficult to marvel at such megalomaniac ideas.

Dubai Mall

Since the malls in Dubai are among the sights, we should not forget to mention the Mall of the Emirates (Mall of the Emirates) with its ski slope.
If we have to say something about the shopping in the listed malls, it is that Dubai is too far away if someone has decided to leave Bulgaria only for this sole purpose. Nor could it be said that the prices for world-class middle-class brands are much cheaper. In the more luxurious sector, things seem much more affordable than in Bulgaria, and the choice is incomparable, but it is still better to combine shopping with something else, as we will travel so many miles.

The ski slope in Mall of Emirates

So let’s go back to the tour of other attractions and landmarks – as they are understood in Dubai:

Jumeirah Beach and especially the area around Dubai Marina is a place where you can see people walking, which is a rarity in Dubai. The most pleasant area – at least among those we saw during our trip. All the most famous hotel chains have a site in this area. Fortunately, we stayed right here. The hotel is immaculate, but there is a lot of construction going on around it, apparently with the idea of turning the whole strip into a forest of skyscrapers in the shortest possible time.
The beach itself is white and fine sand, but because of the heat we realize this only in retrospect after returning to Bulgaria. While we are there, we only think about how to survive the heat, and the phrase “I’m going into the sea to cool off” loses its meaning in the unbearably warm waters of the Persian Gulf. Special signs on the beach recommend swimming parallel to the shore – once because of dangerous currents and the second time – because of… sharks ?Ah, how we miss our Karadere at the moment…

On the beach of Jumeirah

Palm Island is another peak in the achievements of urban architecture and construction in Dubai. Unfortunately, from the ground it cannot be seen and appreciated completely. It is well visible from the air, so one of the most common attractions is a helicopter ride. We are lucky to see the palm island from the plane on the way back to Bulgaria. Interesting and impressive view indeed. Hotel Atlantis The Palm, one of the most expensive in the emirate, rises deep into the sea as a crown of luxury. It has a separate entrance for tourists who come to see it, and one of the attractions offered is swimming with dolphins in shallow or deep waters…

Hotel Atlantis The Palm

Burj Al Arab – the famous super luxury hotel allows you to see it only if you book breakfast, lunch or dinner there in advance for a mandatory envelope. The most affordable option is a cocktail in the lobby or the skybar, and from the latter the view is truly unique and memorable. Gold, fountains, aquarium walls with fish – this is the lobby of the Burj al Arab. You can’t go in flip-flops from there while coming home from the beach…

The lobby of the Burj al Arab

What else can you do in Dubai?
Typical excursions that are offered to tourists – guests of Dubai and for which we have an opinion from our own experience, are:

Dhow cruise dinner – with pick-up and drop-off from / to the hotel. A pleasant walk in the Gulf of Dubai (Dubai Creek) with a traditional wooden boat with a chance to find yourself among the most colorful international environment. You will have the pleasure of having dinner on board with representatives of basically all races and religions.

For nothing in the world do not go to the historic village (Heritage Village) in the area of Deira. Advertised as a “landmark that will reveal the historical charm of Dubai”, you risk being in a place from which there is no escape – nowhere to take a taxi, and the tourist bus passes at best in an hour, which is too dangerous in the heat . Guided by the naive motive to discover some authentic atmosphere from the emirate’s past, we find ourselves in a small fenced yard with ten souvenir shops and two other deluded Americans, caught like us on the bait of “historical charm”…
Alternative – Dubai Museum , which is located in the same area and which is actually part of the oldest building in Dubai – the fortress of Al-Fahidi.

The one-day trip to Abu Dhabi , the capital of the UAE, leaves fantastic memories . The third largest peninsula in the Arabian Peninsula after Mecca and Medina, the mosque is truly magnificent with its white domes, exquisite chandeliers and stained glass windows.

Female tourists should be warned that they will have to wear a black hooded robe despite the deadly temperatures in order to enter from another entrance, separate from the men. A walk along Abu Dhabi’s promenade (The Corniche) comes as a breath of fresh air after the crowds of tourists in the mosque. If you wish, you can sit down for lunch or choose to shop at the nearby Marina Mall. It is full of interesting and different shops, and somehow it is more cozy and quiet compared to the crowded Dubai malls.

Much greener and less glassy and metallic, Abu Dhabi looks more hospitable and natural to us, without being intrusive with claims of modernity and luxury. And the Sheikh Zayed Mosque even deserves the whole distance from Bulgaria.

With its “overdose” of artificial and modern attractions, Dubai is definitely not our dream destination. But falling right here, we have the chance to feel the power of human will to turn a city from the desert with almost no historical and architectural heritage into one of the most visited and popular tourist destinations in the world. And one has much to learn from this. Whether you love Dubai or not, of course, depends on your point of view. We will be happy if you share it with us!

Synonymous with romance and luxury, the capital of gourmet cuisine and haute couture, both a model of classicism and modernism, Paris is always among the top three most visited places in the world. He really ignites passions and, as we know, is present in the plot of almost every second Hollywood movie.
If for this reason it seems too banal for someone to travel so simply to Paris :), he could take a slightly longer tour of the north of France, seeing the amazing Mont Saint Michel in Normandy and the magnificent castles on the Loire a little later. south (details of such a route can be found in the post From the castles of the Loire to Mont Saint Michel . But the other places, despite its dazzling brilliance, are only the rays, the sun remains Paris.

Paris – the most romantic city in the world

Here are some of the more popular sights and routes in the city that you can focus on:

• The Louvre (Le Louvre) – the most visited art museum in the world, a former royal residence, and today – a huge repository of artifacts, distributed in collections including a variety of art genres, decorative arts, Egyptian antiquities, works of Roman, ancient Greek, Islamic art. One of the busiest halls at all times is the one with the famous “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci. The museum preserves many other masterpieces of names such as Raphael, Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Rubens, Velazquez, etc. Crowds are constantly gathering around the statues of Venus de Milo, Nike of Samothrace and the statue of Michelangelo’s The Rebellious Slave. The magnificent apartments of Napoleon III are also of interest to a wide range of visitors.

In the corridors of the Louvre

Because it is not possible to examine the Louvre thoroughly in one day – its corridors exceed a total length of 16 km., And the exhibition area is about 60,000 square meters. – It is better to mark in advance the works that are important to you and the halls in which they are located. This will save you the disappointment of wiping your walking shoes in a few hours without seeing almost anything that matches your interests.

• Very close to the Louvre are the Tuileries Gardens , Place de la Concorde and Madeleine (St. Mary Magdalene Church). The most famous boulevard in the world , the Champs Elysees , starts up from Concord Square, and at the opposite end – Charles de Gaulle Square – you will be greeted by the famous Arc de Triomphe . Just walk along the Champs Elysees and you will fully understand Joe Dassin and “Aux Champs-Elysee“ ”; it will even sound in your head, as if you wrote it?

• Notre -Dame de Paris or the Notre Dame de Paris. The Gothic cathedral on the island of Cité on the Seine, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, is considered a pinnacle of French art and architecture, setting the forefront of Gothic style. And it really is!

The fountain in Place de la Concorde, Paris

• The Eiffel Tower(Tour Eiffel) is probably the most popular symbol of the French capital, although quite exploited, and even to the point of shaking :). However, climbing to its highest point really reveals unique views for photos of Paris. And from there one can most obviously notice how the buildings and streets are arranged like a model, assembled according to the drawings of an architect – a perfectionist. It also has a name – Hausman, chosen by Napoleon III to transform the city by changing its medieval appearance to a more modern one. Today’s Paris owes its wide boulevards, parks and immaculate buildings, equally lined with beige stone and wrought-iron balconies. In the evening, the tower is brightly lit, and the park around it is a pleasant and lively place, where Parisians at any time organize picnics in the middle of the city with a bottle of good wine.

• Near the Eiffel Tower you can take a boat for a walk on the Seine , from which you get a chance to see and photograph the beautiful bridges and facades of architecturally remarkable buildings located along the river.

Notre Dame de Paris

• Museum of D’Orsay . One of these buildings around the Seine is the former railway station and hotel, which was turned into an Impressionist museum in the 1980s. For lovers of Impressionism, there is hardly another place richer in the collections of artists who worked in France after the middle of the 19th century from the so-called. Salon of the rejected and formed a new trend in art. This is a paradise for fans of Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas, Pizarro, Van Gogh (although especially for him the house-museum in Amsterdam also includes a large number of works), Gauguin, Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec. We also recommend the souvenir shop at the museum, which offers ingenious options for how to take home an object that is both useful and emotionally charged with his favorite picture.

• The Luxembourg Gardens with the Palais de Maria de ‘Medici – one of the largest parks in Paris. The palace with amazing flower gardens, statues and fountains was built in the early 17th century by the will of Maria de ‘Medici, similar to the Pitti Palace in her native Florence. A fashionable place for walks among the French nobility in the past, today the palace is a place for sessions of the Senate of the French Parliament. The park is located on the borders of the Latin Quarter and near the Sorbonne. The neighborhood, which has a real student atmosphere, is populated by many colleges and universities, and its very name comes from the Latin language, which was taught in the Middle Ages. In the same place you will find some of the liveliest bars and bistros in the city.

Museum of D’Orsay – Van Gogh, 1890

• Montmartre Hill with the Artists’ Square and the Sacre Coeur Basilica at the top. The picturesque streets of Montmartre carry the spirit of many famous artists who worked in their studios there such as Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh and others. In the area around Montmartre is the famous cabaret “Moulin Rouge” (Moulin Rouge).

• The Palace of Versailles in the town of the same name, 30 km from Paris, must be included in every trip to the French capital for cultural and educational purposes. Transformed from a castle into a royal palace and the site of the de facto rule of France during Louis XIV, Versailles is one of the most famous palaces in Europe, part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. In Versailles you can still see the decor of palace life in the time of the Sun King – a life full of luxury and splendor, but also with all sorts of intrigue and betrayal.

The gardens of the Palace of Versailles

The long list of landmarks in Paris also includes: the Home for the Disabled , the Pantheon with the remains of Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, Voltaire, Marie Curie and other prominent Frenchmen, the Pere Lachaise Cemetery , where Chopin, Oscar Wilde, Bizet, Balzac are buried , Bellini, Edith Piaf and other great figures in human history, Place Vendôme , the Opera House , the Montparnasse district , and many, many more.

Paris has many more faces, but it would be best to find them yourself. In a way, it itself looks like a real French wine – after drinking it dissolves into a lush bouquet of aromas, turns your head and leaves a long aftertaste.?
